Sadie Spins, by Leann Parker Hi! My name is Sadie Spins and I'm a professional hula hooper!

I'm the founder, teacher, hoop manufacturer, dancer and webmaster for HoopToronto.  That's right - I build, I teach, and I perform.  I'm a founding member of Circus Alchemy and also work with Zero Gravity Circus as a performer and circus camp coach.

I started hooping 4 years ago at an arts festival and was hooked! The massaging, hugging feeling of the hoop, and the open, balanced movement of the hips was the perfect remedy for my desk-bound body!  I came back to Toronto and started gathering friends, making hoops, and teaching informally at a weekly hoopjam.  When I finished my Master's (in Medical Biophysics aka making MRI's better), I had lots of requests for regular classes, and more and more hoops. So I hopped on a plane to San Francisco and became a Licensed HoopGirl  Instructor, and started teaching the next month!  I love teaching hooping, it's an honour to introduce grown-ups to their inner child!

I sell hoops and teach classes because I want to spread the joy, the freedom, the groove, the sensuality and relaxing nature of the hoop...Toronto needs all the help it can get to loosen up!  Hooping has helped me love my body, breathe deeper, feel comfortable dancing  wildly in front of strangers, understand personal space,  feel rhythm, and has taught me how to meditate.  It's the most dynamic piece of plastic you'll ever find!

I've studied modern belly dance (most recently with Audra of The Dark Side Studio) and anusara yoga (currently with Josie at Kula), capoiera, NIA and expressive movement. I dance at drum circles, music festivals, and electronic music events.  I also care a lot about local foods, bicycles, smiling excercises and tap water.

If you see me on the street, say hi! If I'm hooping, wait a while :)
