Class description: The HoopPath workshop series is designed to help hoopers of all levels strengthen fundamentals and deepen their practice with the hoop, whether it be performance, fitness, or personal meditation. Ours is the only hoop curriculum with an exhaustive lexicon of terms that make both logical and poetic sense. In our introductory shops we guide hoopers through extended core exercises that improve balance, rhythm, feel, and full-body movement with the hoop. We will practice all techniques in both Currents (directions), extending the movement vocabulary and confidence of beginning and experienced hoopers alike.
20 people max! Register now!
We will have community gatherings on that weekend – potluck and jams and fire oh my! Let me know if you are coming from out of town and want a couch to crash on, or if you’re in town and can offer a couch.

What is this? Intensive weekend with the HoopPath! This is for hoopers of all levels, who hoop for all reasons (performance, fitness, or meditation). This is not a teacher training. The intensive weekend is great for bumping up your skill quickly, deepening your personal practice, or climbing out of a (hooping or emotional) rut. You will be shocked with how much you can learn, grow, and laugh in one weekend! Who are the teachers?
Jonathan Baxter (video) of the HoopPath. If you’ve seen hoopers switching directions fast (including myself), they’ve probably studied with Baxter. HoopPath technique goes from fast, furious, and powerful breaks, to slow, graceful, meditative contact hooping. Their music selection crosses all genres.
What will it be like? Baxter knows how to do multi-level right. HoopPath
workshops attract everyone from beginners to teachers to retired pros.
It’s about guiding each hooper along their path, not competing or
compromising. There will be lots of laughing and flying hoops! For
beginners, it will be about feeling the basic technique. For advanced,
it will be about pushing your limits. Much of the time is
blindfolded, great for focusing on sensations to improve skill,
meditating on life, love, and all the rest, and decreasing competition
(with others or self!).
Testimonials Last year 5 of us road tripped from Toronto to North Carolina to attend the annual HoopPath retreat. The experience was transformative for me; I experienced it as guided moving meditation. Baxter helped me feel comfortable in the hoop, dancing and feeling and grooving, instead of juggling. In the classes, I had a beginner on my right and a super-star pro on my left, all three present, progressing, and learning together. Hoopers are wonderful people and I am thankful to be surrounded by them
From Mo: i
went to the hoop path retreat last year and it was incredible. it was
so fun to have that many hours of hooping shared with the group. the
energy was stellar.
this
is all about your personal hoop journey. getting 9 hours of SOLID
hooping in over a weekend is incredible! i felt like a completely
different hooper by the end of it. From Cindy: Attending a Hooppath workshop lead by Bax is an amazing experience. He leads you through a journey of self discovery, new ways to express and move your body with a smile, he makes you giggle at yourself and with others in the class. By learning to hoop blindfolded you are faced with challenging yourself to depths you were afraid to get to alone. I've learned a lot about myself during the weekend and toned my bum and legs at the same time! His workshops are not to be missed!
From Alison: I attended the Hoop Path retreat last year in Carrboro and have been hooping for 2 years now. Learning the Hoop Path's techniques allowed me to expand on my hooping style to get past the tricks of hooping and learn to enjoy the flow. It's all about hooping for yourself and not comparing yourself to others. Hooping with a lighter smaller hoop also provided a fun challenge. I had a wonderful time at the retreat and look forward to continuing my growth as a hooper with Baxter in July. It feels like we've won the lottery. A whole weekend of Baxter to ourselves!!If you have anyquestions, please ask! |
